Sendera - Gateway to the Enterprise

Sendera™ is a Java application that provides enterprise-wide access to
business-critical, operational data that is normally restricted to the control
center. Using Internet and Java technologies, Sendera provides remote
monitoring and control capabilities using a three-tier architecture - thin
client (Internet browser), server, data source.

Thin Client - Using any Java-enabled browser, individuals at all levels of
the organization can view and interact with dynamic data as it is
automatically updated on-line.

Server - The Sendera Application Server manages all displays, events
and commands between the clients and data sources.

Data Source -
Databases, instrumentation, data acquisition systems,
modeling and simulation systems, network management systems, legacy
applications, business/financial applications, and command and control
systems.

Application Server - Sendera’s primary component is
the Application Server. Residing on an organization’s
Web server, such as Apache or Microsoft IIS, its main
function is to manage all commands, events and data
between the clients and data sources. With server-side,
on-demand graphic publishing, Sendera users can
visualize their business-critical data in a variety of
formats right at their desktops using a standard Web
browser.

Display Editor -
Enables graphical display development
with an easy-to-use "drag and drop" interface. Drawing
tools allow users to create intricate static objects or
choose from a palette of pre-built dynamic display
objects (such as meters, barcharts, plots and buttons).
Because no graphics is coding required, users can
easily point and click to specify both the visual
characteristics and data sources of each object.

A conversion utility takes the output of the Display Editor
and converts it to a suitable format for the Internet – a
combination of HTML code and Java applets. The
resulting files can then be distributed by the Sendera
Java Application Server to any Java-compatible
browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft
Internet Explorer.

ODBC Server Module -
Serves current and historical
data from an ODBC-compliant database (Oracle,
Sybase, MS Access, Informix, etc.) to the Sendera
Application Server for graphical display in a Web
browser. Using SQL statements (select/update)
configured within the dynamic display objects, the
module is capable of bi-directional transfer of data
between a database and the Sendera Java Application
Server.

The ODBC Server Module is designed to work in a
networked environment. It can run on either the same
host CPU as the Sendera Application Server or on a
separate machine. Similarly, it can access data via
ODBC on the local machine or on some other
ODBC-database on the network.

API Development Kit -
In addition to the ODBC Server
Module, Sendera provides the ability to create custom
interfaces to existing data sources or legacy
applications using the API Development Kit. The API
manages all network connectivity and communications
between a distributed application and the Java
Application Server. Using TCP/IP and remote procedure
calls to handle data transmission and conversion,
Sendera’s API eliminates the need to write network
interface code, implement peer or server protocols, or
deal with machine-dependent, data-type issues.
  Concurrent user connections - Supports
simultaneous access to the Sendera Application
Server, providing point and click remote data access to
all business units in the enterprise

Optimized data link - The Sendera Application Server
optimizes the client/data source connection as it
updates only the dynamic components of a display,
allowing its static framework to be cached by the Web
browser.

Multi-platform connectivity -
Sendera can manage
information from ultiple data sources running on
different operating system platforms and incorporate it
into a single display. Additionally, each of Sendera's
components can reside on different operating system
platforms:

  Thin client - NT/2000/XP, Win95, Win98, UNIX
Server - NT/2000/XP, AIX, Sun Solaris (Contact
  Kinesix for other supported platforms)
Data sources - NT/2000/XP, Digital UNIX,
HP/UX, AIX, SCO, Solaris, SGI, Lynx OS,
  PowerMAX OS
