Operations
Contract
June 5,
2006 (HOUSTON, TX.)
– Kinesix Software has renewed maintenance agreements that
will ensure the continued use of its Sammi®
graphical-interface software as part of the Mission Support
Operations Contract (MSOC) for NASA’s space shuttle
program. The
MSOC covers mission operations and ground
systems support for the Mission Control Center (MCC) at
Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The MCC is
the heart of operations for space shuttle missions.
Numerous data streams for shuttle systems and operations are
fed into the MCC, which requires a dependable, proven
solution for interpreting this information into useful
graphical displays. Kinesix’s Sammi software runs most of
these graphical displays at the MCC – especially those that
control payload applications and monitor shuttle orbits.
“NASA
physicians also use Sammi to monitor the life signs of the
astronauts aboard the shuttle, says Kinesix CEO Russ
Jamerson. “In addition, NASA uses Sammi as part of its
International Space Station training program – which uses
the product to train mission controllers and astronauts for
upcoming missions.”
In addition
to using Sammi at the Johnson Space Center, the agency also
uses the product at the Marshall Space Flight Center,
Langley Research Center, and Goddard Space Flight Center.
Other national aerospace organizations that utilize Sammi
include the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) and Canadian Space
Agency.
“The MSOC
contract renewal will extend one of our most integral client
relationships,” Jamerson says. “NASA has long taken
advantage of Sammi’s ability to process and control
real-time data in graphical displays, especially in
mission-critical situations. Kinesix is proud to continue
its involvement with the space shuttle program.”
In addition
to NASA, Sammi has been used in the satellite
command-and-control systems from more than a half-dozen
large aerospace companies. According to Jamerson, these
companies selected Sammi based on its ability to display
real-time data feeds in a graphical format, while also
distributing information easily across a network that
consists of both Linux and Unix operating systems.
About Kinesix Software
Kinesix Software is the developer of Sammi, an enterprise and control-room graphics tool used by more than 20,000 mission-command and process-control workers. The Sammi product, which was first launched in 1990, allows users
to build custom graphical displays that animate and manage massive volumes of streaming data across dozens – or even hundreds – of workstations. With Sammi, users see full-color dashboards, instead of rudimentary numeric readings or basic, conventional GUIs. While Sammi is often categorized as a graphics product, its real value lies in its proven ability to display live data across a network of command and control systems. Sammi is currently
available for Unix, Microsoft NT/2000/XP and Linux platforms. Kinesix offers Sammi for a variety of platforms, including Unix, Microsoft NT/2000/XP and Linux. In addition, Kinesix is currently developing its next-generation human-machine interface, based on Microsoft’s .Net platform. A Microsoft .NET version of the product will debut in early 2006. Kinesix is based in Houston, Tx.
